We have already written about the great and famous dancer and actress Rita Moreno. And here are more stories about actors/actresses who are great dancers, who are actors/actresses; stories are taken from The Richest.

Hugh Jackman

Versatile actor, Oscar nominee, Hugh Jackman, has been in love with dance since childhood.

He almost gave up dancing due to criticism from his older brother, who told 11-year-old Hugh at the time that he is not for dance. However, when he turned 18, his brother changed his mind and encouraged Hugh to follow his heart.

Christopher Walken

Walken became very popular after roles in the films Deer Hunter and Annie Hall. What most people don’t know though is that he actually started his career in the entertainment industry as a dancer.

Christopher Walken said he took his first dance lessons when he was 3 years old. He attributes his extensive dance skills to early training and the fact that he has been close to dancers since childhood. He also played roles in musicals before gaining recognition in the film industry.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones is an Oscar-winning actress. When she was only four years old, Catherine had already started attending dance classes, and at the age of 15 she left school to join The Pajama Game (music production on tour).

She starred in the musical 42nd Street when she was just 17 years old. The actress also studied at the Musical Theater in London before she became famous in Hollywood. When it comes to actors/actresses who know how to dance, Catherine Zeta-Jones is simply one of the best. She not only dances as an actress, but it is also her hobby.

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz states that her dance history helped her in her film career, more precisely in her roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar.

Without a doubt Penelope is a top dancer and at the beginning of her career she focused on dance. She studied classical ballet at the Spanish National Conservatory for nine years, and later attended Spanish ballet for three years. She studied at Cristina Rote’s school for an additional four years (her sister is one of the main actresses in the series Un Paso Adalente, she talks about dance school)

Zoe Saldana

The second highest paid film actress (since 2019), who loves to dance Zoe. She has appeared in some of the greatest movies of all time, including Star Trek, Avatar…

Zoe states that despite all the forms of dance she studied, ballet was her passion, but she had to give up because she didn’t have the legs for it. Saldana occasionally works with NYCB dancers and is without a doubt a great dancer. Zoe is one of those actresses you wouldn’t expect to know how to dance because she rarely danced on set.

Here is Serbia, very good dancer who was trained as ballerina before becoming an actress was Milena Dravic.

And although she is not an actress, she is a great dancer, and that has certainly helped her to become real pop icon, even though she does not sing very well – Madonna!

Recently Suzana came across an interesting article in the Dance Magazine: “The Dancer Identity: Do You Ever Stop Being a Dancer?”

When do we call ourselves dancers? When do we stop to be dancers?

The author told us her story and she put few excellent points there:

“Dancers have excellent time management skills, are both creative and pragmatic, collaborate well, can adapt to a variety of settings and personalities, can juggle multiple projects at a time and bring a level of commitment that is profoundly unique”.

No matter how much time we spend away from serious training, that technique, artistry, discipline and passion built us into Dancers.

Perhaps we never lose our dancer identity, and once this physical and emotional art-form has nested within your bones, it is in you forever. Dance is physically etched into our identity. We know our bodies better than the average person knows theirs. We share a common language. We have a deep ability to focus. We hear the rhythm of a song before we hear the words. We crave moving on a daily basis. We check our alignment in every mirror. We know the perils and rewards of hard work.

The characteristics that so often define a dancer may be developed through technical training, but they stay with us long after that training stops” (source: https://www.dancemagazine.com/are-you-still-a-dancer-2649041990.html?rebelltitem=3#rebelltitem3).

Exactly like that, many of us have sometimes practiced regularly and hard. Then some other circumstances happen and we stopped with our trainings.

No matter, as the author stated, once dancer, always a dancer.
